How We Work

Theory of Change

At Children of the Forest, we take a multisectoral approach in order to redress the social injustices and discrimination stateless migrant children, single mothers, and families face in the Thai-Myanmar border zone. Here is a visual of how our programmes work together to provide these essential services to our local Sangkhlaburi community.

Our staff are organized to ensure that the process above is accomplished. See our staff organizational chart below.

Self-sustaining work that ensures our organizational longevity.

As an integrated nonprofit in Sangkhlaburi, it is vital that our work is continued.

Farming

The COF farming program serves two main purposes. The first is to create a genuine community environment, one in keeping with the traditional ethnic villages where many of the children originate from. Students, mothers and staff work together to select and grow nutritious vegetables for daily consumption. Microfarming has proved a fun and highly effective way to foster relationships amongst children, adults and nature.

Solar

In 2024, we received funding for the installation of a hybrid solar power station. This has increased capacity by 20kw to a total capacity of 27kw, giving COF scope for expansion. Since January 2025, between 60-80 % of COF’s daily power use is now generated by COF’s hybrid power station.
